ENGINEERING designers at Warton-based BAE Systems will be involved in work relating to the company's new £150m Ministry of Defence contract.
The contract will see Warton and the engineering design team at Farnborough, Hampshire, contribute to an upgrade programme for the Harrier warplane.
Best known for its vertical take off and landing capability, the Harrier's GR9 upgrade will give existing GR7 aircraft updated digital systems.
The programme is designed to allow the planes to hit a wider range of targets harder, at longer ranges and with less risk to pilots.
Kevin Taylor, managing director of the company's Military Air Solutions and Support division, said: "This contract sets in place a robust Harrier upgrade programme and underlines the continuing importance of support and upgrade work for BAE Systems."
The contract will also include an upgrade to the two-seater TMk10 Harrier which has dual controls and is used to train pilots.
