DETECTIVES have called off a murder investigation after it emerged that the death of a man who plunged from a 16-storey tower block in Blackpool may have been accidental.
Robert Stevens, 42, was found dead at the foot of the Churchill block of flats on the Queens Park estate, Layton, in the early hours of last Saturday (January 25).
It is believed the victim fell from the window of a third floor flat.
Police originally treated the incident as a murder enquiry after a post mortem revealed that Mr Stevens died from multiple injuries.
And arrested three male youths aged 14 to 15 years of age who were later found to have no connection with the death.
But face charges of assault and burglary with intent to steal at various addresses in the building - including Mr Stevens' home.
Now investigating officers believe the death could have been an accident after finding no evidence to suggest otherwise.
Detective Superintendent Ian Jones said: "Our investigations are now suggesting that Mr Stevens 'death might have been accidental.
"This is the line of enquiry we are following because we have found no more evidence to support the view that the death was suspicious."
