VILLAGERS from Ainsworth and MP Ivan Lewis have met with factory bosses in an attempt to clear the air.

Ainsworth Community Association has been complaining about the nauseous odours emanating from chemical storage firm Seolocrete for the past two years.

Health and safety bosses gave the Church Street depot a clean bill of health and the company was keen to assure residents by holding talks with them.

Following the recent meeting, bosses have committed themselves to working with the association to closely monitor the nature and frequency of the odour emissions over the next three months.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Lewis, MP for Bury South, said: "It was a constructive meeting. Both the Community Association representative and I were persuaded of the company's good intentions with regard to the residents' concerns.

"However, it cannot be right that residents have their quality of life blighted by this all-too frequent problem. I will be working with the community association to monitor the situation over the next few months and hope we will find a solution which improves the situation for local residents."
