FORMER traffic warden Nick Gisicz is the new community support officer in Darwen aimed at ridding the town of anti-social behaviour problems.

With three weeks of police training behind him, Nick will work with community beat officers and Sgt Anne Scott to tackle crime on the streets.

Sgt Scott said: "The role does not mean Nick is a police officer but he is worlds apart from the role of a traffic warden. Primarily, the role will be to tackle issues of juvenile nuisance and anti-social behaviour. It is a full-time position. I think it will be very good for Darwen because often the police have to focus on other things and this will mean someone will be dedicated to tackling anti-social problems."

Nick said: "I've been away from Darwen for some weeks now and I'm really looking forward to coming back. I was a traffic warden for nine years but this new role will be a real challenge."
