A LETTER from Mr Fred Wrigley of St Davids Avenue, Thornton Cleveleys (Citizen 16.1.03) urges Wyre Borough Council to build shelters for tram passengers in Victoria Square, Cleveleys.
I share Mr Wrigley's concern for people who have to queue in wet, windy and cold conditions waiting for trams either to Fleetwood or Blackpool. However, he should direct his comments to our neighbouring local authority in Blackpool. It is their tramway and their land where the old tram shelters stood.
They were demolished for health and safety reasons. We have asked Blackpool about replacement shelters and we are still hopeful that they will find a solution to the problem before too long.
However, we believe it is Blackpool Borough Council which has the responsibility to provide shelters for passengers waiting to buy a ticket for Blackpool trams.
Incidentally, Mr Wrigley touches upon plans to re-develop part of the Jubilee Gardens at Cleveleys and adjacent seafront areas.
He suggests that housing development forms part of the proposed development, but it does not.
Wyre Borough Council, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde
