TEN people were arrested after a police swoop turned in a haul of drugs and weapons near a controversial Great Harwood club.

And police have said they will continue to crack down on party-goers until the organisers 'sort their club out.'

The arrests were made outside Monroes on Saturday night -- the sixth time the Wood Street club has been raided.

Operation Escort Six produced a haul of weapons including a police-style baton called an asp, a screwdriver and Class A drugs including amphetamine, ecstasy and tamazepam.

One person was arrested on suspicion carrying a weapon and nine were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs. Of the nine, two were also found to be carrying weapons.

Six were cautioned, one was released without charge and three were bailed.

The first crackdown operation was initiated on Saturday December 14 after complaints about noise and a serious assault.

The searches, legalised under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, were made at a number of roads around the club.

Inspector John O'Reilly, of Great Harwood police, said: "It was another successful night where a number of searches were made.

"We will continue to target the club until it can guarantee the safety of those attending the club."
