THE daughter of tragic Phoebe Morley has said a tearful thankyou to Blackburn shoppers who raised money in her mother's memory six months after the ordeal which captured the public's imagination.
In summer last year Phoebe Morley, 76, of Ewood, Blackburn, was stranded at a Florida Hospital after being diagnosed with terminal cancer of the bowel and kidney.
She had failed to declare she had been diagnosed with gallstones, prompting her insurance company to refuse to pay for her treatment and she died weeks later. Yet, the Blackburn public are still raising money to help her family. Sally Morley said the renewed knowledge that the Blackburn public are still supporting her family through their torment is especially comforting.
Sally, of Pendle Drive, said: "What a lovely thing to do and what lovely people. I am so touched especially because it is Blackburn people." The public outcry which followed Mrs Morley being stranded led Prince Aziz of Brunei, who was moved by her plight, to fly her home. She arrived on a specially chartered jet.
The Blackburn pensioner died weeks later in Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
