BACUP had to come from behind but eventually recorded a resounding win in this Second Division Trophy clash.

Bacup, who rested key players Paul Fildes, Stuart Telfer and David Gray, were second best in the first half and Tommy Allen had to be alert to save from Mick Channon, son of the Manchester City legend.

The visitors then went into a shock lead and it was 1-0 at half-time.

Telfer and Gray came on for Lee Kershaw and Nicky Taylor at the break and the changes turned the game as Bacup began to play quality football.

Ten minutes into the half the home side were level when Damian Moran played a deep cross which Dave Gray headed down for Bartholomew to drill past the helpless keeper.

Bacup took the lead in the 62nd minute when Telfer cut inside, played the ball to Martin Peters whose shot was well saved by the keeper. But Telfer was there with the follow-up to make it 2-1.

On 66 minutes Peters put Gray through, he drew the keeper and slotted the ball home.

Then Peters got in on the act with a goal from close range.

Keeper Allen had a hand in Bacup's fifth when he threw the ball out for Micky Bartholomew, who played the ball in for Gray to chip the keeper.

Six minutes from time Cheadle were reduced to 10 men and their misery was complete when Peters was brought down for a penalty.

Gray stepped up to take it and duly completed his hat-trick.
