THE Rams took full advantage against a poor Flixton side to claim a much-needed three points to take them off the bottom of NWCL Division One for the first time in six weeks.

The Rams paraded new signing Don Clarke and he was to prove very influential player on a heavy pitch.

On seven minutes Jordan Rispen cleared the ball off the line but the Rams opened the scoring on 15 minutes. Barker picked up a loose ball 35 yards from goal. His inch-perfect pass found Doni Clark in space and he placed the ball with ease past Swanton to put the Rams 1-0 up.

It wasn't long before they grabbed number two. A mistake by Flixton's Kelly was pounced on by Glyn Barker, he sidestepped the defender and made no mistake from 10 yards.

The Rams went 3-0 up on 35 minutes. The ball was played out to Barker on the right. His pinpoint cross was met on the volley by Doni Clarke. The ball flew past Swanton for a tremendous goal worth the entrance fee on its own.

Clarke was involved in almost everything and it was his cross on 45 minutes that found the unmarked Brierley, who had already missed a host of chances. The deadly striker opened his account for the afternoon to make it 4-0 for Rams.

The Rams supporters were having a fine day and if they thought the players would take their foot off the pedal in the second half they were in for a shock. The players came out in a determined mood and nearly grabbed number five on 47 minutes, Piggott clearing the ball off the line after a mistake by Swanton.

The fifth goal arrived on 57 minutes. A short corner between the two Clarkes ended with Doni knocking the ball into the near post where Brierley was lurking and the striker grabbed his second goal of the game.

Flixton were reduced to 10 men on 63 minutes. An outrageous tackle from behind by Prince on Chris Clarke gave the referee no option but to show him the red card.

Flixton 's 10 men couldn't get hold of the ball and it only looked a matter of time before number six arrived and it was Brierley who got it, Doni Clarke playing the ball into his path on 85 minutes. The striker gave Swanton no chance from the edge of the box with a thunderous volley.

Number seven arrived on 87 minutes, Brierley notching his fourth of the day after a cross from Fitton.

This was a tremendous performance by the Rams against what has to be said was a poor Flixton outfit.

But this has given the whole club confidence in its bid to get out of the relegation zone.
