Oldham St Annes 20

Leigh East 8

SAINTS finally broke their Leigh East hoodoo by producing a stunning second half performance to end a five-match losing streak and reach the third round of the GMB Union National Cup.

East had the better of the first half and led thanks to a Lee Rowley try as John Gunning and Danny Kilshaw called the shots.

Richard Badby pulled a penalty back and at the break East were only ahead 4-2.

Eight minutes into the second half Badby missed a penalty shot after Kilshaw had been sin-binned for off side, but the Oldham side made the most of their extra man when Lee Kemp shot through a gap to score and Badby added the extra points.

With East still down to 12 men, Danny Tyrell grabbed a second home try and Badby goaled to put his side in control. Kilshaw was sin-binned again and while he was off Badby added a penalty and then went through for a try.

East grabbed a consolation try through Gunning but the game had already slipped away.
