ECO-FRIENDLY youngsters at a Leigh primary school are pinning their hopes on a summer trip to Stockholm for an international conference on water.
The trip is first prize in a national competition organised by the Drinking Water Inspectorate to help develop children's understanding of the importance of a clean water supply.
Year 5 pupils at St Peter's C of E Junior School are currently putting the finishing touches to artwork and essays illustrating where drinking water comes from.
Class teacher Mrs Valerie Cushion said: "The prospect of a trip to Stockholm was a big draw but the competition also fitted in with a science project we are doing on water and the environment."
The Drinking Water Inspectorate stresses it is not too late for schools to take part in the competition. Entry forms are available from Terry Bates at United Utilities on 01257 427875. Full details are also included on the DWI website www.dwi.gov.uk Closing date for entries is February 28.
Regional prizes will be awarded to individual winners and runners-up and to the winner's school or class.
