LANCASTER University Theatre Group is to introduce a whole new experience in the world of musicals!

Produced and directed by the students themselves is an innovative production of Brechtian drama about 1,000 miles away from your typical Broadway musical!

Based on The Beggar's Opera by John Gay, and set against the background of Victorian Soho, 'The Three-penny Opera' tells the story of Mac the Knife, the most renowned bandit in London. When Mac marries Polly - daughter of Mr J. J. Peachum, business manager to the beggars of London - Polly's parents begin a grand effort to see him on the gallows.

Combining a darkly comic satire of bourgeois society with the astonishing jazz-influenced music of Kurt Weill, The Threepenny Opera has been among Brecht's most popular works ever since its premier in 1928.

What will happen when Mac's hour of execution arrives? Can there be a happy ending?

All will be revealed in this witty portrayal of the exploitation of human misery at The Nuffield The-atre, Lancaster University, on February 25, 26 and 27, nightly at 7:30pm.

Tickets are £6 (£4 concs) from the box office on 0800-028-3042
