COLNE manager Dean Grice is hoping new loan signing Denny Khan will be just what his side needs to boost their season.

A win over Blackpool tomorrow would allow them to create a gap between them and the 11th-placed side.

And Grice believes the experienced Khan is the man to steer them up the table.

"I think Denny was in the First World War," joked Grice about his 37-year-old new signing.

"It's a move we've talked about for a while and we've got him for the foreseeable future. If Darwen are struggling with injuries then he'll go back but, otherwise, he'll stay with us until further notice.

"We needed a link player, someone who will hold the ball up for us going forward and Denny is perfect for that role."

And Grice hopes Khan will play his part in moulding young striker Euan Purcell. The 17-year-old Lancashire FA star is expected to be involved this afternoon when Colne travel to Blackpool Mechanics.

He has had trials with Manchester United and Bolton and is believed to be being tagged by Burnley and Ipswich.
