CARL Howarth's prolific goalscoring form came up trumps for Padiham last weekend.

The Storks' bid for the NWCL Division Two title gained a head of steam when they romped to a 9-2 home win over second-bottom Daisy Hill, with Howarth netting five.

"That's exactly what we signed him for," Padiham manager Graham Howarth said.

"We've been quite pleased with his performances, not just his goalscoring but his all-round displays.

"He has settled in to the side quite well, as has midfielder Scott Gizon, who we've also been pleased with.

"They're exactly what we were looking for."

Although tomorrow's opponents are only one place behind Padiham, Howarth reckons they can be counted out of the promotion race because teams have too many games in hand over them.

But he knows that doesn't mean his side are in for an easy game.

"They are quite a young side and have had some good results this season.

"It was a good win last week but it was a different kettle of fish. Daisy Hill are at the opposite end of the table. But obviously we will be going to Maine Road hoping to win."
