ONLY one person comes out of the 'right, cock' saga (LET, March 4) with a questionable attitude. Not the complainant who obviously wasn't well and certainly not the nurse who was equally obviously simply being kindly and friendly.

No, the one person with a pitiful attitude is surely John Dell, acting chief executive of the local NHS Trust.

How much time did he and senior staff waste on "investigating" the ridiculous complaint, writing to Mrs Christine Wilkin-Wyke, and defending his actions to the press. He has even suggested a meeting between the complainant and Mrs Hurley, matron for A and E Services, "to discuss her concerns further."

Mr Dell possibly, and Mrs Hurley certainly, must have better things to do with their time.

Your editorial comment about it being preposterous that "busy health care managers have to be diverted from more serious matters," was way off the mark. They don't have to be diverted; they choose to be diverted. A courteous letter acknowledging the complaint would have been quite sufficient.

Finally, to the excellent nurses at Blackburn Infirmary, can I just say that if they are ever looking after me they can call me what the hell they like?

HAROLD HEYS, Derby Close, Darwen.
