BLACKBURN target Martin Andresen is better equipped to make the most of his second crack at a career in the Premiership, writes ANDY NEILD.

That's the view of Norwegian journalist, Carsten Bleness, who has tracked the 26-year-old's progress since he last tried to make the grade in England with Wimbledon four years ago.

Andresen, who is currently on a week-long trial with Rovers, played just a handful of games for the Dons following a £1.8 million move from Stabaek in October 1999.

"He's a more mature player now than when he was at Wimbledon," said Bleness.

"He's grown up a lot in the last couple of years and he looks more ready to make his mark in England than he was before.

Players from Scandinavian countries have a history of being successful in England.

Norwegian internationals such as Henning Berg, Stig Bjornebye and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all made their mark in the Premiership.

And Bleness says the Norwegian public are hopeful that Andresen can add his name to that illustrious list.

"Over the years, we've developed a lot of players for the Premiership but not many have come through recently.

"Jon Arne Riise was probably the last one but since then not many have made the breakthrough.

"That's why Martin has been getting quite a bit of Press in Norway because he might be the next.

"The last two years have been very, very good for him and Stabaek have been preparing for a while to lose him to a club abroad."

Andresen is a regular in the Norwegian national team and he was recently voted Norway's player of the year.

His current contract with Stabaek is due to run out in the summer but Rovers may be able to strike a cut-price deal for him now if he makes a suitable impression during the next few days.
