A ROADSHOW aimed at encouraging more young people to go to university has visited a Burnley school.
The Aimhigher Roadshow, which is part of a Department for Education and Skills (DfES) campaign to encourage more young people from backgrounds with little or no family experience of higher education to go to university, was at Walshaw High School.
Recent graduate Sharon Bange, from Preston, talked to pupils about her own experience of further education, the options available to them, student finance and the realities of student life.
The roadshow, which is supported by NatWest Bank, also visited pupils at Edge End High School in Nelson.
Alan Johnson, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education said: "Applications to university from Aimhigher areas have gone up faster than in non-Aimhigher areas.
In East Lancashire, the Aimhigher roadshow is building on a solid foundation as the area has a higher proportion of 18 year olds going on to higher education than the national average.
