WITH all the problems that confront our local members of Parliament, i.e. housing, health, law and order, pensions, to mention but a few, it must be gratifying for the people of Burnley that their elected representative Mr Peter Pike MP has solved all these matters in his constituency and has now made a stand on, of all things, the wilful waste of paper caused by emails.
According to your newspaper report of Saturday, March 13, Mr Pike said: "One of the big growths in waste is the generation of email." Spoken like a true champion of the people. I would wager that there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
To be fair to Mr Pike I have a couple of suggestions that would save on waste in my own constituency.
Firstly ban the printing of the Blackburn with Darwen Council newspaper 'The Chuckle,' sorry 'The Shuttle.' Not only would it save on paper, it would also save £100,000 of taxpayers' money.
Secondly make it compulsory for fish and chips to be wrapped in newspaper. This wouldn't save much paper, but my fish 'n' chips would taste better.
J ALLAN (Mr), Rothesay Road, Blackburn
