POLICE have issued householders with a set of warnings after a spate of crime in Oswaldtwistle.

The incidents, which have been happening over the last two weeks, have seen everything from damage to cars, garden statues stolen and daytime burglaries.

Now Oswaldtwistle has been designated the month's 'problem profile' which means extra police coverage in the late afternoon to 10pm, and again after midnight.

Sergeant Andrea Bradbury said: "We are trying to address problems in the area and we welcome support from the community.

"Any information on crimes in the area is welcomed by the police." The spate of crimes have included an ornamental lamp damaged on Whewell Row on March 8, a garden statue stolen from Cardigan Avenue overnight on March 11, and wheel trims stolen from cars in the Tennyson Avenue area on March 14.

Police are warning residents to cement their garden ornaments down, never leave valuables in coat pockets and lock house doors when they are inside.
