BIG band jazz swings into action at the weekend.
On Friday, March 26 from 7.30pm at the Mill at the Pier, Wigan Bolton Youth Jazz Orchestra, Wigan Schools' Swing band, Wigan Youth Big Band and Kings' School Big Band will entertain. Tickets cost £6 (£5.50 concessionary).
The following day a series of events will be based at Standish High School with a performance and seminar by Apitos (9.20am-10.30am), instrumental workshops from 11am to noon with Andy Scott (sax), Nick Smart (brass), Andy Hickey (piano/guitar), Dave Hassell and Chris Manus (percussion) and Frank Grime (bass). Band rehearsal sessions will be held from 1.30-5pm. Pay at the door, £10 full day, £5 half-day.
On Saturday night the Fat Chops Big Band with guest vocalist Jeff Hooper appear at the Mill at the Pier from 7.30pm. Tickets are £9 and £8.
Apitos and Wigan Jazz Youth Orchestra are at the Mill at the Pier from 12.30pm (£8 and £7) and at 7.30pm High Brass (£6 and £5.50).
