Leigh East 22 Oulton Raiders 22: IT often happens that a team's fate is decided by the outcome of a drawn game.

So, while shared spoils may have provided the point that keeps Oulton Raiders in the top flight of the Arriva Trains Conference League it could also be the point that ruins Leigh East's chance of a Top Six play-off place.

And while this was an entertaining game - end to end, clean and competitive - it was a disappointing performance from a Leigh East side capable of bigger and better things. This game was always going to be about the side with the greater commitment to the prize at stake and, sad to say, that side was Oulton.

Fletcher, Stephens and man of the match Lee Wingfield worked hard on both attack and defence, winger Hall was always a threat whenever the ball was in his hands and Taylor's defensive work was again superb. But too many elementary errors and missed tackles even things out between two sides at opposite ends of the table.

Missed tackles left the gaps which saw Jakeman coast home for Oulton's first converted try in the 13th minute but when Kilshaw instigated a move which ended with a try from Starkie, Woods goaling, the scores were back level. By half time though Oulton led 14-6, centre White adding a try and two goals.

Gunning scored and Woods converted five minutes into the second half and White added a second penalty goal for Oulton before Kilshaw broke down the middle, flat footed the defence and sent Woods over for a try and goal to put East ahead for the first time.

Before long Oulton were back ahead with a try from outstanding substitute Scott Collins and a goal from White.

Woods has proved to be East's king-pin many times this season and with time ticking away he pulled them out of the mire again on Saturday with a late try which brought at least a share of the spoils.
