HAVING got back on the winning trail Boro boss Kevin Glendon is continuing his search for reinforcements with which to enter the play-offs.

But all he had to do to make his latest signing was say 'yes.'

"Jonathan Tuke gave me a call and asked if he could come down and train with us, I said yes and he showed up quite well," he explained.

"So with the squad being as thin as it is he's got the opportunity to be a part of it and he should be on the bench this Saturday."

Twenty-two year-old Tuke has been with Radcliffe Amateurs for the last couple of seasons, he has also played for Walshaw and Prestwich Heys under 18s, and attended Manchester City's School of Excellence as a 14-year-old.

"He is very quick, he's good with the ball at his feet and he can play wing, fullback or wingback," said Amateurs' chairman Dave Wilkinson.

He's also very adaptable. Against Hesketh Casuals recently he was played as a forward and scored a hat-trick.

His older brother Steve has been an Amateurs stalwart for a number of years, and is currently playing non-league football in Japan.

Glendon is also in talks with former Boro favourite Tony Carroll, who has recently parted company with North West Counties Football league, first division side Mossley.

In fact, Carroll remains the club's record signing, spending the 1998-99 season with Boro after costing Glendon £4,000 from Northwich Victoria.

"We're in talks with a view to him helping us out until the end of the season," explained Glendon.

"He's scored goals wherever he's played (Carroll has also spent time with Hyde and Droylsden).

"He's got 18 this season for Mossley, and when he was with us he scored for fun.

"I think he still holds the record for the most hat-tricks in a season - four - so he can score goals, there's no two ways about it.

"I can't guarantee him a starting place but I'm hoping he'll fancy it and re-join us.

"If we get another couple of wins we're in the play-offs and you can't sign anyone after March 31, so if we get any injuries we'd struggle.

"In fact we're looking for another two besides Tuke and Carroll."
