FUND-RAISERS trying to bring in cash for a six-year-old girl suffering from a brain tumour were delighted at the success of a charity football match in Darwen.
Players from JFC Dynamoes, who play in the Blackburn Combinations League, played against Canadian team Lynwood FC on Thursday.
The teams were hoping to raise funds for Sophie White, who was diagnosed with a tumour in 2002.
Sophie's family are hoping for a miracle, and plan to send the youngster to the Catholic pilgrimage site of Lourdes.
The footballers, who played the match at Darwen FC's Anchor ground, raised £617 for the cause.
The money brings the total raised so far for Sophie to almost £1,270.
Peter Quinn, JFC Dynamos boss, said: "It was a very good effort considering it was such a bad night weather wise.
The match was supported by local religious group the Knights of St Columba, and Darwen FC who lent the ground to the cause for the night.
