A ROSSENDALE supermarket has thrown its weight behind Lancashire Constabulary's new Volunteer Police Cadet Scheme.

The Rawtenstall Asda store has agreed to support the initiative by providing local police officers with a digital camera to capture the work of the new cadets.

Volunteer Cadet co-ordinator PC Mike Aspden said: "We're absolutely delighted that Asda has chosen to support the new Volunteer Police Cadet Course. Without their funding and funding from our other sponsors Baxi Potterton, we simply wouldn't be able to achieve everything we want to in running this new volunteer police cadet scheme."

The cadet scheme involves 28 16-19-year-olds from across Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. It is being piloted by Pennine Police on behalf of the Lancashire Constabulary and is one of only three in the country which leads to a B-TEC accreditation for cadets.
