SLAG Lane waste disposal point is to get a £88,000 facelift.
The money will fund a number of improvements including separate entrances and exits for service vehicles and the public, improving and creating additional roads, adding signage and increasing the number of skips for waste.
The site will no longer be called a "civic amenity site" but a "household waste recycling centre" to encourage people to recycle their household waste on a regular basis.
The plans were submitted by Wigan council last December and were approved in February as part of a council bid to increase the total 9.6% of waste the plant deals with to meet Government targets. The aim is to increrase that figure to 18% by 2005-06.
