BUSINESSMAN Jack Emmanuel locked the door on his Aladdin's Cave for the last time on Wednesday.
The 75-years-old shopkeeper is reluctantly retiring after 32 years at his M and M Stores in Market Street, Atherton.
London-born Jack moved to the region 40 years ago after visiting his father who had already gone up north.
He liked the area so much he decided to stay and eventually opened up M and M businesses in Atherton, Leigh, and Tyldesley.
But his little corner shop on Atherton's main street is a fine example of good old-fashioned shopkeeping, where customers can find everything but the kitchen sink.
Jack, who has sold the business lock, stock and barrel, said: "I've never wanted to retire, I'm reluctant now and I shall miss it, but I'm not as young as I used to be and the old hearing is going a bit.
"I have enjoyed every moment in Atherton, it's been brilliant. The people are marvellous and it's a lovely little town."
Jack and his wife of 25 years, Maureen, have worked together every day, and in recent years Maureen has built up a thriving greetings card business.
The couple, who now live in Bolton, will celebrate retirement with a holiday in Tenerife where they plan to wind down and relax.
Jack, who has sold up to a local businesswoman, said: "I'll probably be totally lost, but I might pop in and help the new owner. I'm sure she'll do well bringing in modern ideas."
