DARTS fan Evelyn Griffiths hit bullseye on Monday.

The grandmother of The Pretenders' star Martin Chambers celebrated her 100th birthday with two parties and a telegram from the Queen.

Evelyn, who has lived at Manor Fold Residential Home at Atherton for the past two years was a ladies' darts team member who amazingly played for the Red Lion at Ellenbrook until she was into her 90s.

Durham-born Evelyn moved to Lancashire with her parents and lived at Mosley Common and Sale Lane in Tyldesley until she married Geoff Townsend, a drummer with the Ellenbrook and Boothstown Prize Band. They had two daughters, Edna Dagnall and the late Norma Chambers.

Evelyn later remarried and lived in Walkden but has been a widow for many years.

Edna said her mother often spoke of the days when she had to go to school for half a day and then in to the weaving mill for the other half.

She said: "She was the eldest of 10 and never had a baby out of her arms. I think that's what has kept her young. She loves children.

"She was on the pub darts team until she was in her 90s and you could often find her in the toilet praying 'Please God let me win tonight'.

"She likes a tot of whisky and has always been a flirt, especially with the doctors. She walks with a stick now and is a bit feeble, but she's a love.

"She is very proud of her family and Martin, who has been with The Pretenders and Chrissie Hinde from the outset, visited her with family members at the weekend."

At a second party on Monday the home organised community singing led by Singing Lily -- former carer Lily Speakman.

The matriarch of a five generation family Evelyn has three grandsons and two granddaughters, one great granddaughter, Kelly, and a great great grandson, Tyler.
