FORMER Leigh journalist Nick Peake has secured the No 1 seeding at Leigh Tennis Club.
Smash-hit Nick has been named the successful section's new chairman - stepping into the role in what should be a momentous time for Leigh Cricket, Tennis & Bowling Club as it celebrates its 150th year.
"It will be a tremendous challenge," said Nick. "But we are looking forward to what should be a record-breaking season."
Matches begin on April 20 with Leigh fielding a record 17 teams in strong local leagues covering Bolton, Warrington, Walkden and, of course, the thriving Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley area.
Practice began in earnest this week, balls rattling across the nets on the club's seven courts.
"If you want to play tennis, socially or competitively, come and join us at Leigh," urged Nick. "We are always delighted to welcome new members."
