Leigh Miners Rangers 28 West Hull 14: LEIGH Miners produced their best performance of the season to down second placed West Hull and give themselves a chance of runners-up spot in the run-in.

Wests shaded the first half and led 10-8 but the Miners blew them out of the water in the second period to earn their first league win over the Hull side for five years.

With both sides making uncharacteristic errors in the first half, Dave Radley landed two early penalties that were wiped out when Chris Verity powered in wide out off a Chris Lee pass.

The Miners hit the front again when Sean Phoenix provided a sublime pass for skipper Tommy Goulden to burst down the wing and make it 8-4. But Wests snatched an interval lead when Wayne Harris landed a penalty and Lee Moreton crossed right on the whistle.

The injury-hit Miners turned in a stirring second 40 minutes. The accurate boot of Radley nudged them ahead with two penalties before Aussie sub Bob Wood crashed in for a maiden try that Radley converted.

The crucial score came 10 minutes later when Alan Reddicliffe juggled a pass, burst through a tackle and scored by the posts for a six-pointer.

The Miners stepped up the pace and when Lee lost the ball, Steve warburton scampered away for a try. Wests managed a late consolation try from Paul Hatton.
