VANDALS who targeted litter bins in Leigh town centre are tarnishing Leigh's image.
Postbox style bins costing £350 apiece have been torn from their bases in Railway Road and others have been deliberately set on fire.
"We're trying to keep the place tidy, but then something as mindless as this happens," said street cleaner Chris Graham, pictured with a destroyed litter bin.
People and Places manager Nick Burdekin said: "Money which we will have to spend on replacing the bins could have covered the cost of improving access for the disabled with eight dropped kerbs. It is annoying and costly to the taxpayer."
