THE family of a disabled girl from Blackburn are appealing to bus companies to help them transport people to a charity event in Wigan.

One-year-old Eva Heeks contracted meningitis soon after birth, leaving her blind, deaf and unable to walk, talk or feed properly. Her aunt, Pauline Parry, 37, of Ingram Street, Platt Bridge is organising a raffle, disco and auction to raise money for her on June 19, at Mr Earl's Club, Earl Street, Wigan.

Mrs Parry said: "What we could really do with is for the bus companies in Blackburn to offer us a reduced rate so that people could get to the charity event more cheaply.

"It would cost some families about twenty five pounds to travel from Blackburn to Wigan. Obviously we want people to spend money, but we'd rather they spent it on Eva rather than on a coach. As far as I am concerned, the lower rate they offer us the better."

The charity event begins at 7.30pm and raffle tickets cost £1 for a strip of five.

Anyone who thinks they can help or would like further information should contact Mrs Parry on 01942 708608.
