THE Nelson Wheelers Cycling Club promote their annual classic Circuit of the Dales on Sunday which, except for the foot and mouth year of 2001, has been organised by the Club every year since 1949.
For the first time in many years, event secretary Steve Wilkinson of Barrowford has had to return entries with more than the permitted 120 requesting to compete.
The race will start near Ingleton and follow a route of just over 50 miles which will take the riders via Kirkby Lonsdale and over the climb of the Moorcock to Hawes and back to Ingleton over the dreaded climbs of Newby Head and Ribblehead.
Last year's winner and course record holder, Gethin Butler of Preston, starts as favourite although recently he has been pushed close by Paul O'Mahoney of Ulverston .
