Exeter 3 Leigh RMI 2: LEIGH RMI's nightmare season continued at St James Park when they conceded two late goals in a frantic finale.

With 89 minutes on the clock it was 1-1, but a double strike from Sean Devine, sandwiched by a Neil Durkin strike, left RMI heading for relegation.

The Railwaymen took the lead in the 13th minute when David McNiven scored his 22nd goal of the season after debutant Michael Price's corner was headed on by Martyn Lancaster to the striker.

It took Exeter until the 75th minute to equalise when Dean Moxey knocked home an Alex Jeannin corner.

As the game entered its dying seconds, Devine thought he had won it when he lashed home a Moxey cross, but Leigh were not ready to give up.

A minute and a half into stoppage time they won a corner, taken by Andy Roscoe, which Durkin headed home.

Robbie Williams, also making his debut, made a disastrous error when he unnecessarily handled the ball just outside the penalty area and Devine pounced on Scott Hiley's free-kick to net a vital 21st goal of the campaign.

The result left manager Phil Starbuck distraught.

"It is unbelievable; we chucked it away," he said. "I am devastated; it is a game we should have won. We are 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go, and then we fight back in injury time and I think we have gained a point, but we even lose that. Overall our defending was inadequate."
