SEDGLEY PARK 36-19 OLDERSHAW

Lancashire & Cheshire Colts League Cup Under 17 Semi-final

WITH probably the best performance of the season, Sedgley Park Junior Colts cruised into the League Cup final on Sunday.

There they will go head-to-head with reigning champions, Altrincham Kersal.

Oldershaw had a strong pack of forwards and some nippy backs, but the Sedgley pack dominated possession.

It applied constant pressure early on, and this was repaid with the opening try from flanker Daniel McBurnie.

For the next 20 minutes it became the Ronnie Harris show, with two almost identical tries and two conversions.

These were probably the best two tries of the season and involved virtually the whole team.

They involved secure clean ball from the forwards, fast hands through the backs, a superb break from No 8 Dave Kerwin, rounded off by great support from Harris.

In one of their few raids into Sedgley territory, Oldershaw pulled one back before another good team try, this time finished off in style by prop Leyton Taylor for a 24-7 half-time lead.

Hancox, returning after injury, put in a very pleasing performance in the forwards, while Downs and Harrison were both dominant in the lineout.

The second half was slightly less frenetic and, as last week against Eagle, Sedgley stepped off the gas slightly.

However, they still managed to score two further tries.

The first was a well deserved one for Kerwin, the second for Taylor.

Oldershaw went over for two late tries to make the final score 36-19.

In the backs Eric Johnson had a fine game in defence and Andy Graham was unlucky not to get on the score sheet after a wicked bounce from a Harris chip.

The final will be staged at Sandbach RUFC on Sunday, April 4.
