I AM pleased to read that there is so much talk these days regarding litter in and around Blackburn.
Wherever I drive in the area, I seem to be faced with take-away cartons which have been thrown from car windows, particularly those familiar red boxes, together with chip papers and drinks cans.
When I was a child in the 1950s, Blackburn launched a scheme called "The Anti-Litter League." This was introduced into schools and children were given a badge (pictured, left) and certificate giving them membership to the scheme.
Fifty years on I still could not bring myself to throw litter in the streets.
How about Blackburn with Darwen Council resurrecting the Anti-Litter League scheme to encourage a new generation to take their litter home.
