HORSERIDERS, villagers and farmers in Simister will protest on Saturday against plans to build an industrial park nearby.
Members of the Simister Village Community Association have launched a "Save Our Countryside" campaign amid fears they will lose green fields in favour of a business park in Bowlee, Middleton.
Although the plans to develop 36 hectares of land into Middleton West Business Park come under Rochdale Council, Simister villagers anticipate a detrimental effect on their surrounding country lanes.
Secretary of Simister and Prestwich Bridleways Association and a member of the community association, Hannah Knaggs, said: "The proposals to make up a dirt track into a proper road will create far more traffic through Simister. As horseriders, we will also be losing that amenity and we do not have many to start with. It will have a massive impact all round."
