I WRITE with regard to the recent town hall meeting about the redevelopment of Whitefield centre.
The majority of us who attended, and many who were unable to, or couldn't get into the meeting, favour the Dransfield proposals for a Morrisons supermarket. We definitely need one in Whitefield. We lost Safeways, Kwik Save, Hanbury's, the butchers and the hardware stores and nothing was built to replace them.
Bury Council does seem to favour the McLean Homes project which includes a Tesco Metro store.
Why should Tesco have a monopoly? They have a store in Prestwich, one in Bury and a Metro store in Bury. According to the Sunday Telegraph, Tesco have closed 100 small shops and replaced them with 100 Metro stores, and they intend opening another 1,000.
I appeal to Mr Dransfield not to give up in his fight with the council. We are all backing you.
And the councillors should not forget that the elections are imminent. This time, do what the people want. You have let us down so many times. Stop making excuses.
