STAY safe and protect your property is the message to residents from Thatch Leach Lane Homewatch.

The group has teamed up with Bury Council's trading standards, Whitefield Wardens and the police to deliver crime prevention advice right on people's doorsteps.

The full team will be on hand to answer any questions on Tuesday (April 6) from 1pm to 7pm.

The crime prevention trailer will be situated in Thatch Leach Lane, Whitefield, adjacent to the shops and Metrolink entrance.

As well as advice on how to deal with bogus callers, securing property and the home, there will be tips on safeguarding gardening tools and machinery.

Children and young people will also told how to keep themselves safe and there will be practical help with free marking of property and mobile phones.

The event will also be attended by local ward councillors, who will pop in throughout the day.

Coun Alan Matthews, chairman of Whitefield and Unsworth area board, said: "This is the second community safety promotion organised by Homewatch. This is a really good opportunity to get the latest advice and an excellent initiative organised by local residents."
