A CAMPAIGN to cool down arson hot spots in Morecambe has won an extra £44,456.
The boost comes from Poulton Neighbour-hood Management following news in January of a £133,400 Government grant.
The cash will go to the Poulton and West End Arson Reduction Project, being launched on Monday at More-cambe Fire Station.
It aims to stamp out some of the 150 fires started deliberately every year in the resort.
Records show that most were due to rubbish being torched in the backyards of multi-occupancy properties.
The project will see a special crew, armed with a truck, hunting down and carting away piles of rubbish before firebugs can strike.
As part of the project, incident-mapping software will be used to predict likely trouble spots.
A police and fire service-trained officer will also patrol the areas and offer residents security and fire prevention advice.
