A MAN was killed in a head-on crash during rush hour yesterday.

The 23-year-old, who has not been named by police, was driving a sports car which hit a van on the wrong side of the road.

He suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

The accident happened at 5.30pm on the A677, which connects Blackburn with Preston, at the junction of Nab's Head Lane near Samlesbury Hall.

The 23-year-old, who is from the Whalley New Road area, was driving a Mazda RX7 sports car towards Preston which crossed into the path of a Royal Mail delivery van. The Royal Mail van was driven by a 60-year-old man from Rishton.

A 22-year-old male passenger in the Mazda, also from the Whalley New Road area, was believed to be the brother of the man who died.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary by Air Ambulance.

The driver of the van suffered severe cuts to his legs.
