A RADCLIFFE mill is to be demolished to make way for apartment blocks.

The single-storey building, by the canal on Water Street, is to be knocked down, and two blocks containing 38 apartments erected. The application was passed by Bury Council's planning committee on Tuesday.

However, Frank Mills, who lives near to the development, told the meeting that the apartments would mean the loss of light and heat.

He added: "The infrastructure of the roads are not very good and Radcliffe needs sites that employ people, so they can make enough money to buy properties like this. There is a complete imbalance in the economy in this town."
