ATHERTON Town lifted the Atherton Charity Cup with a 3-1 win over old rivals Atherton Collieries.

Colls had much of the early play and created several chances but only managed to convert one when Walker intercepted a poor goal kick and crossed for Nelson to steer home.

The match sprung to life after an hour when Town equalised through Christie who netted at the far post. Encouraged by their equaliser, Town swept forward and it was no surprise when they took the lead through McLoughlin.

With five minutes left Morris broke down the right and scored a good goal to wrap the match up.

Before the game there was a minutes' silence for the late Tom Richards and Ernie Ackers, two long-serving members of the Charity Cup competition.
