AFTER yet another attack on a child by a bull terrier-type dog (Evening Telegraph, May 8), isn't it about time there was a change in the law whereby owners of bull terriers should be forced to keep their dogs on a lead at all times in a public place?

Failure to comply should result in confiscation of the dog and a hefty fine.

I know there are a lot of responsible bull terrier owners but for every one of them there's an irresponsible one.

I've had personal experience of this a few years ago when my Yorkshire terrier was practically ripped apart by a Staffie while its owner stood and laughed.

This country seems to be fond of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Do we have to wait until a child is killed or maimed for life before the law is changed?

Surely we should be doing something about this growing menace now.
