MR AND Mrs John Hayhurst of Melbourne Street, in Oswaldtwistle, narrowly escaped injury when leaking gas exploded, causing a fire at their home.
The blast damaged the front walls of the house just as they returned home from work. Mr Hayhurst had struck a match to light a cigarette causing the gas, which escaped from under floorboards to ignite.
