IN his TV review (April 15), David Thomson wrote: "How many other TV programmes broke from their usual holiday fodder schedule to focus on the true meaning of Easter, and how many viewers actually cared?
A cursory glance at empty pews in churches throughout the land on Easter Sunday would have provided the sad answer".
Well, if we look at the facts rather than hollow rhetoric, we might find a surprising answer.
The vigil service for Easter at Our Lady of Grace Church in Prestwich was attended by some 400 people, and the two services on Easter Sunday were each attended by congregations of around 300. Not many empty pews there!
You don't need to go into church to see people who care about the true meaning of Easter, as many people in the village can testify. Churches Together in Prestwich organised a Walk of Witness from St Mary's Church to Tesco, and held an open-air service there to commemorate the day when Jesus gave his life for our salvation.
Perhaps we take our religion more seriously than we do our television.
