STAFF at a pre-school nursery in Prestwich are excellent role models for their pupils, according to a recent Ofsted report.

The Yocheved Segal Kindergarten at the Yesoiday HaTorah School, in Sedgley Park Road, was praised for its "high quality provision" to three and four-year-olds.

Ofsted inspector, Susan Helen Spencer said in her report: "The teaching is very good. The staff are skilled at questioning children to encourage their learning. They are excellent role models, treating the children with respect, praising and encouraging them often."

The Kindergarten, which caters for Orthodox Jewish children, was also praised for its Kodesh (religious) studies which "make a strong contribution to the children's learning".

The leadership and management of the establishment was also described as "very good", as was the partnership with parents.

The inspector said the overall inspection was "good" but highlighted a few areas for improvement; the kindergarten needs to improve the storage of packed lunches, ensure that parents' signatures are added to accident records and amendments made to the child protection procedure in the event of an allegation made against staff or volunteers.

Headteacher of the Yesoiday HaTorah School, which oversees the running of the Kindergarten, Rabbi Yodaiken, said: "This is an excellent Ofsted report which is due to the efforts of the Matron, Mrs Horn, Mrs Sher and all the dedicated staff. I would also like to thank Bury LEA for their support."
