POLICE in Burnley are appealing for witnesses to an attack in which a man had his hand sliced open with a Samurai sword.

The victim, an Asian man in his 20s, underwent surgery at the Royal Preston Hospital yesterday to try to save his left hand.

He had been with two or three other men when he was set upon by a group of 12 Asian men in Stoneyholme at around 2am yesterday.

Police today appealed for those men to come forward. They are also hoping to get further information about the incident when they speak to the victim later today.

The attack is believed to have followed an altercation between the victim and another man in Brougham Street. The argument is believed to be related to a family issue.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone Burnley CID on 01282 472144.
