I WAS extremely disappointed to read (LET, June 5) that First North Western had scrapped their Sunday train service between Colne and Manchester and not least because I hadn't realised there was one.
I live in Accrington and have often wondered why the train links to Manchester are so poor.
With city parking so expensive and buses so infrequent, I feel sure a regular train service would be well used if only people knew about it. Shoppers and day-trippers could go to Manchester and city-dwellers could get out to the Pendle countryside.
In fact there could even be a case for expanding the service to week days. A reasonable journey time to Manchester and the proper marketing might see commuters move into East Lancashire, bringing much needed investment to what are often described as some of the most deprived parts of the county.
So let's bring back the service, expand it and this time remember to tell someone about it.
