BLACKBURN MP Jack Straw announced he would run the Labour leadership favourite Tony Blair's campaign for the opposition's top job.
With the Shadow Home Secretary almost home and dry it meant that Mr Straw was set to get one of the top positions in the Shadow Cabinet team.
And old soldiers were up in arms over hooligans who wrecked their tribute to the D-Day fallen. All the poppies on the Royal British Legion wreath at Nelson Cenotaph were stripped off and discarded.
