A FLEET of buses has been chartered by Lancashire County Council to prevent a repeat of last year's transport chaos at the Royal Lancashire Show.

County transport bosses are stepping in to fund, and organise, buses to this year's show, near the De Tabley Arms, Ribchester.

Two brand new services, and one extended service, will ferry people to and from Blackburn, Preston, and Clitheroe, to the showground.

County Coun Jean Yates, cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "These new services have been selected as they are ideal for people from across Lancashire.

"We were all shocked at the chaos last year when tens of thousands of people descended on the show in cars.

"Buses will avoid the problem this year, but we know we have to make them convenient and cost-effective if people are to leave their cars at home."

Extra buses will be added to the 3 service from Preston for the period of the show on July 27, 28 and 29.

The new X3 service will link Preston and Blackburn to the show. The new X5 will connect Clitheroe and Whalley to the show.

Special day return fares are available from the driver, and a number of existing rambler-type tickets will also apply,
